I love to travel! What about you? The anticipation of seeing new places and meeting new people. Taking a bit of a break from the day to day routine. Traveling is great. The world is a big place and meant to be explored.

Do you have a particular destination you like to visit? I don’t know if I have one place where I would like to go each year. What I’m trying to do is visit as many places as I can. I know it will take a while, but I would like to visit all 50 states and all 7 continents. I have some work to do.

A few years ago I had a chance to go to New York. I’ve been there actually numerous times back when I was in Pharmaceutical Sales, but never had a chance to visit some places. I finally made it to the Statue of Liberty. It didn’t disappointed. I also visited where the terrorist attack took place on 9/11 and where the Twin Towers once stood. Powerful.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to go to Africa. Talk about a game changer. It was truly a humbling experience. I went there to work holding preacher training courses and also preaching on the weekends. I think me and the brethren who went did about 58 total classes. It was a long but prosperous trip. I’m hoping to make a new page on this site of my travel pictures. Be looking at for that soon.

in 2018, I had an opportunity to go to Israel. Talk about amazing trip. It was so exciting seeing the places I have been reading about in the Bible for such a long period of time. I desperately want to go back. Below is a video of me jumping in the Sea of Galilee. It felt great!

I wanted to share these because these moments are special to me. But I also wanted to talk a bit about traveling and staying in shape. I know I have felt that as soon as I leave my normal routine, it can become really easy to feel like you can completely shut down. NO worrying about what you eat. NO worrying about whether you will exercise or not. I have done that plenty of times on the road. But I’ve changed a lot of things in the last few years. While traveling is often designed to take a break, it’s good to still get some kind of fitness in.

When I was in Africa I ran the perimeter of the farm we stayed at. That was an 8-mile run. I tried to get done as fast as I could because of the animals that were out there.

In Israel, we walked a ton every day. But I made sure I did some kind of exercise. Whether it was running at a particular site we visited, or push-up in the sand when we visited the Mediterranean Sea. Somehow, someway I was sure I got some kind of exercise in. I felt great doing it as well. The video below is me running sprints in Jerusalem. The streets were near empty because it was Shabbat.

Whether it’s performing sprints, push-ups, or stretching getting some kind of exercise in while traveling is important. It will give you the energy to enjoy your time off and the sites you may be seeing. Below are some additional tips for you the next time you get on the road. I would love to hear what things you do to make your trips successful with respect to fitness.

  1. Decide you are going to work out and how often you will exercise. Make it something distinct. While you will probably be walking around a lot, I would suggest you add something specific. Something like this: I will perform 100 push-ups each morning on my trip. I will perform 25 minutes of H.I.I.T training for 3 days on my trip. I will jump rope for 15 minutes each day.
  2. Call in advance where you’re headed to see if there’s a gym in the hotel or nearby.
  3. If there’s no gym, then improvise. No excuses. Run outside. Jump rope in your room. Run the hotel stairs (time when you do this so you don’t wake people up).
  4. Take a deck of cards with you for push-ups. This is the Ray Lewis workout. Flip a card and perform whatever number it is. If it’s a face card, then do 10 (that’s what I do). I believe Ray did 25 and 50 for Ace’s.
  5. Walk as much as you can. Get lost and explore where you are. Take the stairs at the hotel. Every little bit counts.

You get the idea. Traveling can be a WIN-WIN situation. We don’t have to gain a lot of weight while traveling. Actually, we don’t have to gain any weight. Focus.

I would love to hear from you. What do you think? Let me know.
