My mind has been on death lately.

I spoke at a funeral two weeks ago in Lubbock Texas.

I spoke at another funeral yesterday in Lewisville Texas.

For the next four days, I’m doing a special series of lessons called, “Standing on the edge of eternity.” I will be speaking more about life, death, and eternity.

Many try their best to avoid the topic of death. But it’s one we can’t ignore. In fact, I think it’s good to consider it. A LOT. The Bible has a lot to say about it. We should listen to what the Holy Spirit says.

Yesterday, we buried a dear brother in Christ. His name was Roy. While I didn’t know him really well, I was able to spend some time with him in the last few months. Listening to his family speak about him, and seeing how he lived his life, I learned a great deal about him. After the funeral, there were three words that came to mind as I considered his life.

FUN: Brother Roy liked to have fun. His family spoke about the fun times they had. They discussed the games he loved to play. In life, it’s good to have FUN. Sometimes we can be way to serious. Thank you, Brother Roy, for this reminder. Have fun!

FAMILY: Brother Roy has a really big family. It was such a blessing to see his family. It was so cool to hear his great-grandson speak about him. Not only did Roy have a big family, but he was also in the picture. He was around for his family. He worked hard for his family. He enjoyed 64 years of marriage! That’s a great life right there. Thank you, Brother Roy, for reminding me about the importance of family. Whether you have a big or small family, enjoy them.

FAITH: Brother Roy served the Creator of the heavens and earth. He believed Jesus to be the Son of God and risen from the grave. He became a disciple of Jesus many years ago. He served in his local congregation. He was concerned about his family also following Christ. He was a man of faith. Thank you, Brother Roy, for reminding so many about the importance of God. Brother Roy prepared for the future. It’s one thing to work hard here and to have fun. That’s great! But we also must think about the future. Eternity. Brother Roy prepared for eternity.

We all need to be reminded of this. We’re all standing on the Edge of Eternity. One day we will die. We need to begin planning now because we don’t know when we will die. But it will happen.

Thank you, Brother Roy, for reminding me of very important things.
