Observations Gleaned From The Scriptures by JaneEllen This is article #19
Are You Playing Hide and Seek with the Devil?
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be soberminded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” If you were in the jungle and came across a lion, would you say, “Here kitty, kitty”, or would you run away as fast as you can? Sometimes we call the devil instead of running. Sometimes we want to see just how close we can get to sin without actually getting caught in the jaws of the devil.
The verse above tells us to be soberminded and watchful because the devil is after us and we need to run and hide. Where can we hide and be safe? Colossians 3:3 says, “For you have died (to sin), and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” [Parenthesis (to sin) mine] As long as we stay hidden with Christ and God, the devil will never find us.
How can we stay hidden with Christ and God? We can do this by reading God’s Word and obeying what He tells us to do. When I look back over my childhood, the times I did what my daddy told me to do always kept me out of trouble. The same thing is true of God. When we do what He says to do, we always stay out of trouble. So read the Bible. Do what God says. Stay safe.
Don’t play hide and seek with the devil.
Until next time, I remain with a song in my heart. JaneEllen
