Some of the Benefits of Pleasing God

Have you ever thought that we are to try to please God? Ephesians 5:10 says that not only are we to try to please God, but we are to “try to discern what is pleasing to God.”

I often look up words I think I know the meaning of to see what I have missed. The word “discern” is one of those words. It is a verb, and a verb denotes action. “Discern” comes from two Latin words that mean to “separate apart.” So, we are to actively separate apart things that are pleasing to God and we are to do them.

How can we find out what pleases God? All of you who have been following me on this blog know the answer: read the Bible. We must be actively engaged in a thoughtful, thorough reading of God’s Word to be able to discern what pleases Him.

There are so many comforts found in God’s Word, and there are comforts (rewards) in doing what pleases Him. Ecclesiastes 2:26 says, “For the one who pleases Him God has given wisdom, knowledge and joy…” Wow! That is amazing! If we have learned what pleases God and have done it, He has given us wisdom, knowledge, and joy! Isn’t it worth the action of discerning on our part to have wisdom, knowledge, and joy?

Have you done any Bible reading lately?

Have you done any discerning lately?

Have you pleased God lately?

The rewards from God for reading, discerning, and pleasing are awesome!

Give it a try!

Until next time, I remain with a song in my heart.  JaneEllen
