Stephen Covey in his book, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” talks about sharpening the saw.
Abraham Lincoln once said: Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.
That’s the idea of sharpening the saw. Taking time to recover, to recuperate, and to relax. Taking time to recharge the batteries. Taking time to reset and refocus on a particular task. Yet the idea of sharpening the saw is often difficult for a lot of people. What if when one slows down, they miss out on new opportunities? That could happen. What if they lose subscribers or followers? That could happen as well.
But those potential scenarios should never be a driving factor when it comes to staying sharp and providing great content. Producing more is not often better. Sleep is a blessing from the Lord.
Rest, Silence, and Solitude are not negatives, but rather blessings as well.
When was the last time you took some time to sharpen the saw? Do you find yourself rushing into new projects without really thinking about the true cost of them (Time, Financial, and Energy)? I’ve been guilty of that many times. But I have also taken the time to sharpen the saw.
Whenever I do, it works really well. So with that, I will be taking some time away from this blog. I’m blown away with the amount that I’ve been able to write throughout the years.
I thank you all for who has subscribed, read, liked, commented, and shared!
I will send out one more post and then take some time away. I don’t know how long that will be. This year has been great and very rewarding. This will help me to see what else rises to the top.
Take some time for yourself to sharpen your saw.
- Take your vacation time this year.
- Evaluate what’s working and what’s not working.
- Guard your time more carefully.
- Say “No” a little bit more so you can know when to say, “Yes!”
Take care and God Bless!
