She probably struggled with self-esteem issues.

She probably felt that she never measured up living in the house with her beautiful sister.

She probably thought no guy would ever want to marry her.

I’m referring to a woman named Leah who we find in the Old Testament of the Bible.

She was the sister of Rachel. A man named Jacob loved Rachel. Rachel was beautiful. Leah was not! Jacob wanted Rachel!

Eventually, that time would come. But Jacob would be deceived by his father in law. Instead of being married to Rachel, his father in law gave him his other daughter Leah, Genesis 29:17, 21-25. Jacob was not happy.

No matter what Leah did, she wasn’t truly loved by Jacob. She wasn’t beautiful in his eyes. She gave him many children, while Rachel initially couldn’t (He would eventually become married also to Rachel).

Leah didn’t measure up in the eyes of Jacob. It didn’t matter what she did, Genesis 29:31-35. She wasn’t loved. She wasn’t close to him. She wasn’t beautiful.

Leah finally recognized that she could find true love only in one place…with God!

God loved Leah. His love wasn’t based upon her outward appearance. She was made in His image.

Many times women struggle with how they look. They may struggle with self-esteem issues because of their appearance.

You need to know that you are beautiful and loved by God. It doesn’t matter what a man may say. You are made in the image of God. He loves you. Do you believe that? You should.

Your husband may not compliment you, but remember you are loved by God. You are beautiful in His sight.

In Genesis 29:35 it says,  And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.

She was no longer going to wait on Jacob to give her the approval and worthiness she was seeking. She turned to God.

Your worth is not based upon how you look. Our physical appearance will change as we get older. We can do our best with diet and exercise, but our bodies will get old. If our worth is based solely upon how we look, we are in trouble.

Let’s remember that we are made in the image of God. He loves us and not because of our muscles or how small our waist size is, or because of the dress size you may wear.

We are made in His image, Genesis 1:26.
