“I understand what you’re going through.”
How many times have you said those words to someone who was hurting? I’m sure you had good intentions. I have as well. But the reality is, we don’t always fully understand what someone else is experiencing. I don’t fully understand what a person who is suffering with depression is going through. While I have lost loved ones, I don’t fully understand what others who have also lost loved ones are going through. While we both have lost someone dear to us, everyone has their own grief and sorrow.
“The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share its joy.”
Proverbs 14:10
I don’t know what you’re going through. I can and will encourage you. I can and will pray for you. But every heart has their own grief or bitterness. But here’s the good news. God knows what you’re going through. Therefore, we can always turn to Him.
Wow, astounding insight! I have thought on this idea quite a bit, but could never put it into words. This is really amazing–straight to the point.
