I listened to Tim Ferriss interview Seth Godin. I’m really interested learning and reading more of Seth’s books in the future.
During the interview, Mr. Godin mentioned something that caught my attention. He doesn’t have a Twitter account. He learned about Twitter early I guess before it blew up. Yet, he decided not to start an account. He then spoke about how social media platforms are designed. They essentially have users so that they can make MONEY.
Yep, it’s free for anyone to join, but make no mistake about it, there is a COST. What might be that COST?
- TIME
- DEPRESSION
- JEALOUSY
- TIME
I’m sure there’s more I could add to that. Now I’m wondering how much money I made for Facebook after being on it for a decade! No question about it, I put in a lot of work for them. Sure it was free to sign-up and to scroll, but I was an employee. I know this because they made it really hard for me to leave.
30 days before my account would be deactivated. They made a tremendous effort to hold on to me.
So my question to you is this: How long have you been working for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.? How much are they paying you?
What is the true cost for you being on this platforms?
It’s been a couple of months since deleting Facebook. I’m not out of the woods yet. I did the same in 2016. I lasted for about 4 months. We shall see how long I last this time. I will say, this time really feels different. I don’t miss it. My life has become more quiet, more calm, and more productive.
What about you? Do you agree with me or disagree?
What has been the cost for you with respect to social media?
I CAN DO…SO CAN YOU.
Hi Benjamin ✨ This is a wonderful eye opener post for people blindly drown into sea of social media. As you said, I agree with what does it cost you. But i would like to share some tips. There are lot of good people put there this platform as a knowledge source. Instead of following your friends follow these people who shares knowledge. It is a sea of good and bad. What we take from it matters. Completely coming out is also good. Im just sharing what i am doing now. I am not in social media for an entertainment. Now im there for knowledge. and only connects with valuable people.
Excellent suggestions my friend.
I use Instagram and I joined Facebook in December. I rarely use Instagram now and Facebook I use more often. But I limit myself to only one hour per day total. I’m usually busy and don’t have time to be on it all day anyway
That’s great discipline. Thanks for reading
It is very important for the digital marketers to use social media platforms for promoting their products.. But it is also required that they should maintain a balance between all the useful platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Great post!!
Agreed. Thanks for reading.
