Guilty as charged! If you search this website closely enough, you will see plenty of rants and thoughts from me about not being on social media.
Late last year, I decided to give it a shot. Now, as of July 1st, I’m going to be disconnecting once again. Yes, it is a struggle. But this time I have a lot more clarity.
People often talk about Platforms. The whole idea of platforms is relatively new (within the last 20 years). It’s so easy to get caught up in the chase for a larger platform isn’t it?
I’m done with it. The interesting thing is how as of late I’ve been getting more opportunities and they haven’t come from social media. Funny how things work sometimes.
Social media at times is good! There have been a lot of great connections I’ve gotten from social media. But there are a lot of negatives as well. It’s tough even typing this because it’s such a hot button issue.
Hopefully, this will be the last time I discuss getting off of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more.
God Bless!
Stay healthy. You know where to find me.
What did I tell you about FB? It’s there to lure you in. It’s there to make you dependent on it. Yes, connections are good to have but there are other ways to find connections. The negatives still outweigh the positives for me, personally. This is coming from someone who spent 10 years on FB and ran multiple FB pages.
You were right Hilary. I was wrong! Thank you again. Once I was blind, but now I see! I hope all is well with you.
If you don’t know your password, you can’t log in. Highly recommend giving your password to someone else, and making email recovery extremely inconvenient. That trick works like a charm for Instagram too. Willpower only works for so long so it’s best to remove the temptation altogether. Good luck! 😀
I’m going one step further and deleting. I’ve deleted Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Youtube. After going back and forth since 2016, I think I have my answer. A mind that’s constantly in conflict is not going to be effective long term. At least not for me. I’m going to go for some really big things in the next 6-months.
I have this blog, 2 newsletters, a podcast (ICD.Buzzsprout.com), an amazon page and another website in the works. And now adding coaching to the mix (5 clients), social media has run its course. I think actually deleting will help me to be even more productive where I can see results more clearly.
Keep up the great work Hilary! Thank you for the encouragement.
