Ready, Set, Go…

This past weekend, I took part in a 1/2 marathon. It was the Blue Bell Fun Run in Brenham Texas. It was a humid day when we began. The crowd wasn’t as big as expected due to weather conditions.

I signed up for the run on New Year’s Eve of last year. I had just completed a 1/2 marathon that day. Admittedly, I did not fully prepare for this one. In fact, I had decided I wasn’t going to do it a few weeks ago. That changed a week before the run after talking to my friend who had also signed up. Then last Sunday, I got called out from the pulpit during worship services. The visiting preacher had found out I wasn’t going to follow through with the race. He pushed me to follow through with the commitment I made. So I did.

My 1/2 marathon on New Year’s Eve I ran 2:26:03. This one was waaaayyyyy slower. The course was very hilly. Below is a picture of my splits.

My time was 2:48 minutes. I had two goals.

  1. Stay Alive. Check!
  2. Finish Under Three Hours. Check!

It wasn’t pretty, but I finished. I was drenched by the time I got done.

I’ve been reflecting on what I did this past weekend. It always feels much better after you finish. I think the word “FINISH” is so important. It was great seeing so many different people running or walking the race. We all had a common goal: FINISH. That’s what I did. I’m glad I did. I learned a few things as well.

  1. We all need a push from time to time.
  2. You may not be first, but be sure to FINISH.
  3. Push yourself to follow through even when you don’t want to.

What kind of workout did you do this past weekend? Would love to hear from you.

Always remember YOU CAN DO IT.

I CAN DO…SO CAN YOU. Let’s go.
