The mind is powerful. We can tell ourselves stories. By that I mean we can tell ourselves stories that may not always be reality. We can easily convince ourselves out of something good we may be doing into something that will negatively affect us.

Have you ever experienced a conversation like this in your head?

I will use exercise as part of the example.

I’ve been doing really well with my exercise routine. I feel great and have been really consistent. I feel so good I think I can take a break from it for a bit. After all, I deserve it with all the work I’ve done. I’ve hit my goals, so I can rest for a bit.

I’ve said things like this before. What’s happening when we start talking like this? We’re beginning to hinder our future success. It seems innocent enough, but it can become so disruptive. It doesn’t make any sense to stop the very habits and actions that are making us feel GOOD!

What we need to do instead is to be able to identify this kind of thinking and stop it as soon as possible. Take some time and see if you have seen this kind of thinking when it comes to exercise, sleep, taking your medication, meditating, reading your Bible, etc. It can be very sneaky. There’s no need to start over again at zero. What else can be done?

  1. Identify why you are feeling good.
  2. Double down on the habits and mindsets that are moving you in the right direction.
  3. Touch base with your thinking and body on a regular basis. Don’t allow yourself to become so busy that you skip this step.
  4. Enjoy the good vibes and feelings you’re experiencing. Appreciate your consistency.
