“Do you take workout selfies everyday?” That was a question someone asked me a few days ago. 

“Do you wear the same shirt everyday?” That was another question I received a while back. 

Yes and No! 

Yes, since I think since last August I have been taking a selfie after I work out every.single.time. It’s usually a flex pose! 

Why you may ask? Thanks for asking. Because it’s a way for me to hold myself accountable. It can be hard to look in the mirror sometimes, but we need to do it. It’s a great motivator to change and/or continue as you begin to transform. 

Photos also give me a opportunity to see where I am. Now someone else may be asking, “Why do you post them on Facebook?” 

I have been a part of a fitness group for the last nine months, so that’s where it first began. Then I decided I think in December or January to post them on my page. The feedback has been interesting. 

In January there was a lot of laughing. It was fun going back and forth with my friends. No hurt feelings at all. 

In February there was still a lot of laughing. And smelly joke comments. 

In March there were comments about people who post workout selfie photos on Facebook given to me to read. Those were great. I got a big kick out of them. It was funny. 

But something else has been happening. There’s been a positive ripple effect. I’ve had people mention how the workout photos have somehow motivated them. Wow! Who would have guessed it!

I’ve even had some text me some 💪 photos! Very cool! 

The Riple Effect…

What I’m learning is that people need motivation. People like to be inspired. At times people need a push! 

I think people are beginning to see that I’m serious about my health. I’m trying my best (and I’m certainly not bragging). I still have a long way to go. One of the things I have learned is not to compare myself to anyone else. This challenge is against Benjamin Lee! No.One.Else. 

We gotta do all we can to take care of our bodies. 

Taking photos at the gym is also interesting. Many are afraid to do it because they are afraid of what someone may think. But I say who cares. Those people don’t even know me. They don’t know my story and they don’t know your story.  In fact, what’s interesting is that you may be motivating someone there. 

While I was singing and shouting to myself on the treadmill a while ago, the couple next to me mentioned to me not to stop because it was motivating them. 

That was a total shocker! First time ever hearing that. 

After my running session Sunday morning, the woman at the front desk called me Mr. Motivator. I was shocked. I couldn’t help but laugh. 

You never know the ripple effect your exercise may have on someone else for the good. 

A body of mine I sat down with last month to talk nutrition texted me today about how his A1c levels have dropped more than a point!!! Yes!!! 

That’s what it’s all about! It’s not about the six pack, or even the big biceps, but about health and longevity. It’s about being present for our families.
